For the Cricket World Cup 2007, Google launched three cricket-related gadgets: Cricket World Cup Scores, Cricket Videos, and Cricket Images and News. Recently, Google open-sourced all three of these gadgets at code.google.com, opening the door for developers to enhance these gadgets.
I would like to talk a little bit about the Cricket World Cup Scores gadget. This gadget was designed solely for the World Cup; it's not functional now. I propose that we change the Cricket World Cup Scores gadget into a Cricket Scores gadget that displays the scores of ongoing, day-to-day cricket matches.
The original gadget (at left) included features like displaying simultaneous matches, flags beside country names, current batsmen/bowlers, and a full scorecard. For the new gadget, the existing UI designs can be re-used, but we need to identify the data sources from which we can get details of ongoing matches.
If you have knowledge of JavaScript programming or RSS/Atom/JSON XML feeds, or if you are a cricket freak and want to learn how to build gadgets, you are most welcome to join. We would also love to hear your ideas and suggestions for developing this gadget.
Please contact me to join the project. For more information, visit the Cricket World Cup Scores gadget's project page.
