Tip: Double-check your gadget's manifest

This is the first of a series of tips we plan to publish. Do you have a tip you'd like to share? Send it to gd-developer AT google DOT com.
Before you submit a gadget, double-check its manifest file (gadget.gmanifest). Make sure the manifest file has the author name, version number, and author website (which we link to), plus strings or variables for the title and description. If you used a sample as a starting point, remember that every new submission needs to have its own unique id.

Great tip. Happened just recently that I forgot to set the url of the webpage. Maybe the designer could check for these things when packaging the GG file ?

And maybe this could also be done by the automated system that checks the gmanifest file.

The system does verify these things. However, new developers sometimes get confused when their submission gets rejected and aren't aware that the gmanifest data is used when listing their gadget.

Maybe, the Google Team can add a GUID generator as part of the SDK. This would help people who use a different gadget as the starting point for their gadget.
